Cub Scout Pack 241 Welcome Message

Thank you for your interest in scouting! We would love to have your son(s) and family join us! Scouting is a volunteer organization and families are welcome and encouraged to take an active role in scouting for the benefit of the entire family.

This letter is to provide some background information about scouting and to provide an overview of how our pack operates and what activities we do throughout the year.

Here is a link to basic information about scouting that will answer a lot of questions you may have about the program in general: http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/CubScouts.aspx.

Your son will be grouped with a “den” of kids his same age or grade level – and perhaps from his own school and
class. Usually 8-12 kids make up a den depending on our overall numbers. Our pack serves both Northstar Elementary and Double Eagle Elementary although we have kids from other public and private schools as well. Dens will typically meet twice a month for approximately 1 hour at a time to work on achievements specific to their rank. Achievements include learnings and activities in the areas of physical fitness, citizenship, family fun, emergency preparedness, craftsmanship, leadership, environmental science, personal management, duty to God, and more.

Our pack is a collection of all of our dens. We typically have 1 to 3 dens per grade level and have somewhere between 40 and 70 kids in our pack – we are one of the largest packs in Albuquerque. The pack will get together once a month as a group at our “Pack Meeting” (usually the third Thursday of the month) to go over pack announcements, hand out awards and achievements that the scouts have earned, and have some fun together as a large group.

Our pack tries to organize and conduct one pack activity a month throughout the year, usually on a Sunday afternoon and sometimes on a Saturday. Our year coincides with the academic school year, although we also conduct pack activities (typically one a month) throughout the summer as well (dens will not meet through the summer). Below is a list of the planned pack events for the year:
