In nature late January-early February is a magical time. Waterfowl that have
flown south for the winter are now stirring. The winter weather is warming
and the ducks, geese and sandhill cranes are anxious to begin their long flight
to their nesting grounds up north.
This is an awesome time to visit the Rio Grande Nature Center. Troop 285 is
inviting all Cubs and families to join us in a leisurely nature hike at the Nature
Center to observe early springtime activities and maybe to earn some Cub
Scout achievements. We hope you join us for an afternoon of outdoor fun!
Remember to bring your “Six Essentials” on the hike.
The Rio Grande Nature Center is located at 2901 Candelaria Road NW (drive
west on Candelaria to where it meets the Rio Grande). The Center charges a
$3/car “park day-use fee” to be paid in cash upon entering the parking lot.
We will join up in the parking lot at 1 pm on Sunday, February 17
th, tour the
wetland, visitor center and then take a short 1.2 mile hike. On the hike we
will stop occasionally for observations and discussions.
In addition to observing nature, we will work on the following Cub Scout

Wolf: Call of the Wild #6
Paws on the Path #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
